This role offers the opportunity to help evolve Ubuntu by working with an experienced team while maintaining and packaging software, including web servers, databases, and virtualization/containerization stacks. Applicants can expect to collaborate with a distributed team, evaluate contributions from other engineers, and play a role in shaping the future of Ubuntu.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate proactively within a distributed team.
- Foster a seamless software ecosystem for all Ubuntu users.
- Maintain high-quality software standards in evaluating contributions.
- Shape the future of Ubuntu through new ideas and collaboration.
- Debug issues on open source and team maintained code.
- Maintain Ubuntu Server packages for traditional workloads, virtualization, and containers.
Work Conditions:
- Work from home with global travel (2 to 4 weeks per year for internal and external events).
- Full-time remote position.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
- Strong fundamentals in at least one programming language (C/C++, Python, Rust, Go).
- Interest or experience in open source maintenance or contribution.
- Understanding of package management and dependency resolution.
- Interest in containerization and virtualization technologies.
- Comfortable setting up test systems in containers or virtual machines.
Language Requirements:
- Proficiency in English is typically expected.
