We are seeking enthusiastic engineers to join our Public Cloud team as Ubuntu distribution engineers. The role involves ensuring that technologies such as cloud-specific agents, web servers, databases, and virtualization/containerization stacks are optimized for public clouds. As a distro engineer, you will collaborate with partners and work to deliver the best version of Ubuntu for the cloud.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate proactively within a distributed team to create a seamless user experience for all Ubuntu users.
- Evaluate contributions from other engineers to maintain high-quality software standards.
- Collaborate with teams in the Ubuntu and Debian communities, as well as commercially supported customers.
- Debug issues in open source code and team-maintained code.
- Work with the Ubuntu Engineering Server team to maintain and package software.
Work Conditions:
- Remote work environment with global travel of 2 to 4 weeks per year for internal and external events.
What We Are Looking For:
- Passion for technology and collaboration with brilliant individuals.

- Interest or experience in public cloud operations or architecture.
- Interest or experience in open source maintenance or contribution.
- Strong fundamentals in Python and understanding of Linux distribution packaging.
- Familiarity with packaging management and dependency resolution, as well as containerization and virtualization tools (e.g., Docker, LXD, VirtualBox).
- Ability to set up test systems in containers or virtual machines and communicate issues clearly.
