Position

The company is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in various enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are hiring a Software Engineer for a fast-paced role in Linux-based software-defined infrastructure and applications covering all layers of the stack. Responsibilities include working on bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN, Core networking), and open source applications.

This role is ideal for a technologist with a passion for Linux and open-source development. You will troubleshoot and resolve complex issues, maintaining relationships with the company's Field, Support, and product engineering teams. You will develop bug fixes, backport patches, and actively participate in upstream communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with various teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities.
  • Review code from other engineers.
  • Maintain clear and concise technical communications.
  • Work from home with some travel (up to 10% of work time).

What We Are Looking For:

  • Professional experience as a software engineer.
  • Background in Computer Science, STEM, or similar.
  • Strong experience with Linux, and at least one cloud technology (Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes).
  • Proficient in Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • Familiarity with debugging tools and git source code repositories.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Passion for technology and teamwork.
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Interest in Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, and distributed systems.
