About the Job: Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems for global enterprise and technology markets, particularly through its widely adopted platform, Ubuntu. We are dedicated to building next-generation private cloud infrastructure, integrating KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies for mission-critical cloud solutions in edge and core enterprise deployments. We are looking for an engineering manager with a solid technical background in high-quality microservice architectures and high-performance team leadership. The ideal candidate will have deep familiarity with Linux kernel, virtualization, storage, and networking. As an engineering manager at Canonical, your primary responsibility will be to lead and develop an effective, high-quality engineering team, ensuring they grow professionally and personally while delivering outstanding work. You will advocate for modern software development practices and maintain strong technical leadership, working closely with your team on strategy and execution.

Key Responsibilities: - Lead a remote team of engineers. - Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and feedback. - Set and manage expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders. - Engage in code and architectural reviews. - Collaborate with internal teams and the open source community. - Work from home and travel globally for 4 to 6 weeks per year for events.
What We Are Looking For: - Understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes. - Proven ability to develop and grow team members. - Focus on delivering high-quality software on time. - Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field. - Strong written and verbal technical communication skills. - Programming experience in C and/or Go.
Work Conditions: - This is a remote position available in EMEA and the Americas. - The position may require global travel for team meetings and events.
