As an engineering manager, you will be responsible for managing an effective team and fostering the development of your colleagues. You will help them grow as engineers, engage in meaningful work, achieve professional and personal satisfaction, and collaborate effectively with colleagues and the community. The role requires experience in leading collaborative engineering teams, solving challenging distributed systems problems, and possessing profound knowledge of Linux.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of remote engineers.
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development.
- Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
- Advocate for and advance modern software development practices.
- Engage in code and architectural reviews.
- Collaborate with teams within Canonical, the open source community, and partners.
- Work from home, with global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.
Requirements:
- Strong understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes (K8s).
- Proven ability and enthusiasm for developing and mentoring people.
- Focus on delivering timely, high-quality software.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
- Experience programming in C and/or Go.
