Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems known primarily for its platform, Ubuntu, which is widely used in sectors such as public cloud, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), engineering innovation, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The mission of Canonical is to build a next-generation private cloud infrastructure using KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies, aimed at creating a reliable data center-scale cloud for both edge and core enterprise deployments. We are seeking an Engineering Manager who possesses experience in high-quality microservice architectures, high-performance team leadership, and in-depth knowledge of the Linux kernel, virtualization, storage, and networking.

As an Engineering Manager at Canonical, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a team of remote engineers
  • Developing talent through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development
  • Managing expectations with various engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Advocating and advancing modern software development practices
  • Engaging in the engineering process through code and architectural review
  • Collaborating with teams at Canonical, the open-source community, and partners

Work Conditions:

  • This is a fully remote position available in the EMEA and Americas regions.
  • Global travel is expected for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.
  • Your role will primarily focus on enhancing team performance and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality software.

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes.
  • A passion for personal development and a proven track record of nurturing talent.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Experience in programming with C and/or Go is required.
