At Canonical, our mission is to build a next-generation private cloud infrastructure that integrates KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies, providing a reliable cloud solution for edge and core enterprise deployments. We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead teams focused on high-quality microservice architectures and possess deep technical knowledge in Linux kernel, virtualization, storage, and networking. In this role, you will run an effective team, help your colleagues grow as engineers, and ensure their work is of the highest quality. You will provide technical leadership, influence team culture, facilitate technical delivery, and collaborate on strategy and execution. An ideal candidate will have a strong history of leading successful engineering teams, adept at resolving distributed systems problems, and will have a deep understanding of Linux.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of remote engineers
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Advocate for modern software development practices
  • Participate in the engineering process through code and architectural reviews
  • Engage with team members at Canonical, the open source community, and partners
  • Work from home with global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events

Requirements:

  • Experience in modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes
  • Strong track record in developing and growing people
  • Focused on delivering timely, high-quality software
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Programming experience in C and/or Go

Work Conditions:

  • This is a remote position available in EMEA and the Americas
  • Global travel for internal and external events (4 to 6 weeks per year)

Language Requirements: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
