Software Engineering Manager - Cross-platform C++

About the Job: The company is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems, known for its platform, Ubuntu. This role involves leading the development of Multipass, a workstation mini-cloud designed for macOS, Windows, and Linux users. The aim is to provide developers with a local cloud experience, enabling them to run builds, test cloud deployments, and manage cloud appliances conveniently.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for:

• Leading a team of remote engineers
• Developing talent through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development
• Setting and managing expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
• Advocating and advancing modern software development practices
• Participating in engineering processes through code and architectural review
• Engaging with teams at the company and the open-source community

Work Conditions:

• Remote position available in EMEA and the Americas
• Global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events
• Distributed work environment with twice-yearly in-person team sprints

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar degree
• Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
• Expertise in modern C++ development
• Experience with cross-platform development on macOS and/or Windows
• Knowledge of hypervisor technologies such as Hyper-V, VirtualBox, and KVM
• Open-source experience is a plus
