As the Software Engineering Manager at Canonical, you will have a solid technical background and be responsible for managing an effective team while fostering the growth of the engineers you oversee. Your key responsibilities will include leading a team of remote engineers, developing talent through coaching and mentoring, managing expectations across different teams, and engaging with the broader open source community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of remote engineers.
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development.
- Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams and stakeholders.
- Advocate for modern software development practices.
- Participate in code and architectural reviews.
- Collaborate with teams at Canonical and partners within the open source community.
- Work remotely with travel required for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
- Strong track record of developing and growing team members.
- Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
- Expertise in modern C++ development.
- Experience with cross-platform development on macOS and/or Windows.
- Knowledge of hypervisor technologies such as Hyper-V, VirtualBox, and KVM.
- Previous involvement in open source projects.
Work Conditions:
- This is a remote position available in EMEA and the Americas.
- Distributed work environment with team sprints held in person twice a year.
Language Requirements: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
