About the Job: The company is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead Multipass, our workstation mini-cloud solution. Multipass provides developers with a local cloud experience on their workstation to run builds, try cloud appliances, or test deployments at no cost. In this role, you will have a solid technical background and be responsible for running an effective team, developing your colleagues, and ensuring professional growth. You will be expected to lead and challenge engineers, influence culture, facilitate technical delivery, and collaborate on strategy and execution. Key Responsibilities: - Lead a team of remote engineers. - Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and feedback. - Manage expectations with other engineering teams and stakeholders. - Advocate for modern software development practices. - Participate in code and architectural reviews. - Collaborate with teams at the company, the open-source community, and partners. - Work from home with occasional global travel (4 to 6 weeks per year). Qualifications: - Proven track record in developing and growing people. - Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field. - Strong written and verbal technical communication skills. - Expertise in modern C++ development. - Experience with cross-platform development on macOS and/or Windows. - Knowledge of hypervisor technologies such as Hyper-V, VirtualBox, and KVM. - Open source experience and involvement. Work Conditions: - This is a remote position available in the EMEA and the Americas. - Distributed work environment with twice-yearly team sprints in person. Language Requirements: - Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
