Software Engineering Manager - SaaS

Drive the future of collaborative open-source development tooling as part of the Launchpad team. This is an opportunity for a motivated engineering manager with a passion for open-source software, Linux, and web services to join our distributed team. Launchpad is a robust platform for managing open-source development projects, providing essential infrastructure for major projects such as Ubuntu.

As an engineering manager at Canonical, your primary responsibility is to the people you support: ensuring they are growing as engineers, undertaking valuable work, and generally having a great experience at Canonical. You are expected to provide technical leadership, challenge and grow your team members, and facilitate technical delivery while working on strategy and execution.

Key Responsibilities:

• Grow and lead a team of engineers in your region.
• Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
• Apply sound engineering principles and directly contribute to your team's goals.
• Create and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders.
• Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate proactively with a distributed team and community.
• Lead the ongoing development of Launchpad.
• Advocate for and advance modern, agile software development practices.
• Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with company values.
• Actively engage with the broader leadership team.
• Work from home with international travel up to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.

• Experienced in delivering high-quality software and designing complex distributed systems.
• Possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Solid experience working in an agile development environment.

Work Conditions:

• This is a remote role based in the EMEA region. Candidates must be located within this region.
• International travel up to 6 weeks per year is expected.
