We are seeking an Engineering Manager for our Sustaining Engineering team, which plays a critical role in enhancing open source software by addressing defects reported by customers. This position leads a regional team and reports directly to the global Director of Sustaining Engineering. The team works on large-scale mission-critical infrastructure and application solutions built on Ubuntu and open source software.

Your main responsibilities as an engineering manager will include supporting the growth and development of your team, influencing company culture, facilitating technical delivery, and working collaboratively on strategy and execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead a distributed team of engineers.
  • Hire, coach, mentor, and provide feedback and career development guidance to team members.
  • Manage & measure key performance indicators (KPIs) and training.
  • Support the timely delivery of bug fixes, patches, and technical solutions across technology fields such as Ubuntu, OpenStack, Ceph, Kubernetes, Juju, and MAAS.
  • Set and manage expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Advocate for and promote modern software development practices.
  • Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
  • Collaborate with other teams within the organization.
  • Work from home with global travel up to 10% for internal and external events.

Requirements:

  • Professional software delivery experience using languages such as C, C++, Go, or Python.
  • Strong knowledge and passion for software development.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to prioritize complex problem resolution and bug fixes.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git and debugging tools like GDB.
  • Commitment to testing methodologies and maintainable code quality.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both verbal and written).
  • Experience with Linux, preferably Ubuntu.
  • Familiarity with Open Source and Open Source Business Models is a strong plus.
  • People management experience in a support organization is a plus.
