The Software Engineering Manager for Sustaining Engineering will lead a regional team dedicated to enhancing our software offerings, ensuring that our engineering team is growing, thriving, and providing valuable contributions. This role involves managing a distributed team of engineers, focusing on career development, team dynamics, and technical delivery. The manager will advocate for modern software development practices, support timely delivery of technical solutions, and collaborate with various teams within the organization.

Location: Riyadh, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (Remote)
Work Conditions: Full-time, remote role with global travel up to 10% for internal and external events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a distributed team of engineers.
  • Hire, coach, mentor, and develop team members.
  • Measure key performance indicators (KPIs) and support training initiatives.
  • Ensure timely delivery of bug fixes and technical solutions relevant to a variety of technology fields, including Ubuntu, OpenStack, Ceph, Kubernetes, Juju, and MAAS.
  • Set expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and stakeholders.
  • Promote a collaborative engineering culture aligning with company values.

Requirements:

  • Professional software delivery experience using languages such as C, C++, Go, Python, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge and passion for software development.
  • Experience in leadership and complex problem resolution.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and debugging tools (e.g., GDB).
  • Commitment to testing methodologies and maintainable code quality.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both verbal and written).
  • Experience with Linux, preferably Ubuntu, and with open source business models.
  • People management experience in a support organization is a plus.
