As an engineering manager, your primary responsibility is to support your team members in their growth as engineers, ensuring they contribute value and have a fulfilling experience at Canonical. You will lead a regional team, report directly to the global Director of Sustaining Engineering, and influence the company's culture, strategy, and technical delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead a distributed team of engineers.
- Hire, coach, mentor, and provide career development guidance.
- Manage and measure key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Support timely delivery of bug fixes and technical solutions across various technology fields, including Ubuntu, OpenStack, Ceph, Kubernetes, Juju, and MAAS.
- Advocate modern software development practices and foster a collaborative engineering culture.
- Collaborate with other teams within the organization.
Work Conditions:
- This is a full-time, remote role.
- Global travel up to 10% for internal and external events.
Language Requirement:
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
Qualifications:
- Professional software delivery experience using C, C++, Go, Python, or similar.
- Passion for software development and experience with version control systems.
- Familiarity with debugging tools and a strong commitment to testing methodologies.
- Experience with Linux, preferably Ubuntu, and knowledge of Open Source business models.
- People management experience in a support organization is a strong plus.
