As a Software Engineering Manager, your primary responsibility will be to support your team, facilitating their growth as engineers while ensuring they find satisfaction in their work. You will need substantial technical leadership experience and a passion for Linux to excel in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a distributed team of software engineers focused on delivering all Linux kernels for Ubuntu.
  • Take ownership of aspects of Ubuntu Linux, including working with partners to optimize kernels and implementing stringent quality control standards.
  • Engage with teams across Canonical and the open source community to achieve common objectives.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Significant programming experience in C; knowledge of Python, Golang, or similar languages is a plus.
  • Familiarity with operating system kernel internals, particularly with Linux.
  • Experience managing or leading software engineer teams.
  • Strong coordination skills across distinct technical teams.
  • Proficiency in version control practices (ideally with git) and prior experience with software packaging formats (Ubuntu/Debian/Snap is highly regarded).
  • Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Background in kernel patching and debugging.
  • Knowledge of device drivers, BSPs, and low-level system engineering.
  • Experience driving CI/CD and process automation initiatives.
  • Involvement in open source projects.
