We are seeking a Software Maintenance Engineer to work in a dynamic and exciting role focused on Linux-based infrastructure and applications. This role covers all layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN, Core networking), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and the open source applications that large enterprise customers utilize.

In this position, you will be challenged to demonstrate a breadth of engineering skills to work on various aspects of Ubuntu and the open source applications our customers rely on. You will troubleshoot and drive issues to resolution, develop bug fixes and patches, and maintain close working relationships with the company's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes.
  • Participate in upstream communities and develop bug fixes.
  • Review code produced by other engineers and maintain clear communications.
  • Manage your time effectively and prioritize work based on team discussions.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 10% of work time for team meetings and conferences.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Interest in learning about technologies such as Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, and distributed systems.
