We are seeking an Engineering Manager who is passionate about operational systems, open source technologies, and cutting-edge hardware. This role involves leading engineering teams to enable and optimize Ubuntu for the latest x86, ARM, RISC-V, s390x, and POWER systems. An Engineering Manager should be an exceptional developer, capable of reviewing patches or software design specs, driving healthy engineering practices, improving documentation, ensuring quality, and performance optimization.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers from graduate to senior levels.
  • Oversee commercial engagements and ensure timely delivery on project milestones.
  • Participate as a technical lead on complex customer engagements involving complete system architectures.
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes and integrate platform-oriented software stacks.
  • Optimize Ubuntu for the latest hardware platforms and contribute to code reviews and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate actively with other leaders within the organization.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic record from high school and university.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling alternative path.
  • Fluency in C, C++, and Python.
  • Experience with Linux and operational systems software (e.g., kernel or user space).
  • Knowledge of Debian/Ubuntu or other distribution packaging.
  • Experience leading software engineering teams.
  • Professional written and spoken English.
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks for company events.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with open source communities and licenses.
  • Knowledge of x86, ARM, RISC-V, or s390x computer architecture.
  • Familiarity with build systems and toolchains, including for cross-compilation.
  • Experience working with customers and knowledge of board bring up and validation.
  • Experience with Linux virtualization, networking, graphics stacks, and technologies like Docker/OCI containers/Kubernetes.

  • This is a full-time, remote position with a globally distributed work environment.
