As a Software Support Engineer, you will tackle critical issues within the open source stack, providing bug fixes and resolutions for complex customer problems related to Ubuntu and associated technologies. The role requires broad engineering skills and the ability to work at various levels of the stack, addressing software issues effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes
  • Maintain a close working relationship with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams
  • Participate in upstream communities
  • Develop bug fixes and backport patches
  • Review code produced by other engineers
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in a technical context
  • Prioritize work and manage your time effectively

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record
  • Background in Computer Science, STEM, or similar
  • Experience with Linux and open source software
  • Proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux
  • A drive to learn unfamiliar technology and deep-dive into challenging issues
  • Willingness to travel for team events

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Curiosity about and interest in technologies such as Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, PostgreSQL, Mongo, Debian packaging, distributed systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Language Requirements:
Proficiency in English, with additional languages considered a plus.
