Sr Robotics Engineer, PWT

About the Role
The Sr Robotics Engineer, Powertrain owns robotics standards, offline programming, reliability, and safety validation for the AMP-2 Powertrain, which encompasses both Drive Unit and HV Battery robotic populations. This engineer will play a key role in a greenfield facility by establishing FANUC, ABB, and KUKA standards from initial commissioning through to volume ramp-up. Responsibilities include ensuring robot uptime, optimizing cycle times, and maintaining safety compliance across the entire Powertrain robot fleet through disciplined change control, objective launch evidence, cross-functional problem solving, and structured transfer of technical ownership to the Saudi workforce.

Key Responsibilities

• Robotics Standards & Architecture

  • Define and enforce robotics standards across FANUC, ABB, and KUKA robotic populations.
  • Establish naming, positional, program, and safety-configuration standards.
  • Own robot BOM standards including controllers, teach pendants, safety modules, and EOAT interfaces.

• Offline Programming & Cell Design

  • Own offline programming environments (FANUC RoboGuide, ABB RobotStudio, etc.).
  • Perform reachability, collision, and cycle-time simulation for new cells and modifications.
  • Support cell layout, safety zoning, and human-robot collaboration design.

• Robot Reliability & Uptime

  • Own robot uptime KPIs across the Powertrain fleet and drive downtime reduction through structured analysis.
  • Establish robot preventive maintenance strategies including grease, encoder, battery, and cable-track maintenance.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for robot-related breakdowns and cell downtimes.

• Cycle Time Optimization

  • Own robot cycle time optimization to support takt achievement.
  • Deploy structured cycle-time reduction using motion tuning, path smoothing, and program optimization.

• Robot Safety Validation

  • Own robot safety validation, coordinating with EHS and Automation on safety-PLC integration, light curtains, and interlocks.
  • Ensure safety validation records are maintained and ready for audit.

• HV Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce high voltage (HV) lockout/tagout (LOTO), HV interlock (HVIL) continuity, and mandatory HV personal protective equipment (PPE) for all work on or near EV Powertrain equipment.
  • Comply with SASO, Saudi MOL, IEC 60204, and functional safety standards (ISO 13849 / IEC 62061).
  • Support HV emergency response including thermal runaway isolation and battery-related incident procedures.
  • Achieve and maintain HV safety competency relative to scope of work.

• Launch Governance & Ramp-Up

  • Support AMP-2 Safe Launch activities, run-at-rate events, and capacity verification within scope.
  • Contribute to Launch Readiness Reviews, Layered Process Audits, and Process Confirmation routines.
  • Participate in Quick Response Quality Control (QRQC) and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) escalations during launch and ramp-up phases.

• Safety & Reliability Governance

  • Define robot programming, naming, frame, payload, backup, mastering, spare, preventive maintenance, and controlled-change standards.
  • Own offline simulation, reachability, collision, safety zones, cycle optimization, and digital validation for new cells and modifications.
  • Establish fleet KPIs, bad-actor analysis, obsolescence roadmap, recovery playbooks, and engineer/technician qualification standards.

• Change Control & Operational Readiness

  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)/Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, equipment acceptance, Safe Launch, run-at-rate, and capacity verification, providing objective evidence and disciplined punch-list closure.
  • Control production, process, software, and test changes through documented risk assessments, approvals, validation, revision history, and rollback or containment planning.
  • Participate in readiness reviews, Layered Process Audits, Process Confirmation, and QRQC/RCCA, closing assigned actions with verified effectiveness.

• Safety, Quality, Data Integrity & Compliance

  • Apply role-specific HV LOTO/HVIL, machine safety, stored-energy isolation, electrical safe-work, and PPE requirements; never bypass safety devices or product protections.
  • Protect product genealogy, calibrated-tool status, test/measurement integrity, document control, and audit-ready objective evidence.
  • Comply with applicable AMP-2, SASO, Saudi labor/EHS, IATF 16949, IEC 60204, and functional-safety requirements within the assigned scope.

• Saudization, Capability Transfer & Collaboration

  • Build Saudi national capability through structured on-the-job training (OJT), integrated learnings/skills matrices, practical assessment, certification, cross-training, and documented knowledge transfer.
  • Create technical standards, troubleshooting guides, and training materials.
  • Collaborate across Production, Quality, Maintenance, Automation/Robotics, Manufacturing Engineering, EHS, IT/OT, MES, Supply Chain, Product Engineering, and suppliers.

Skills

• Deep robotics expertise (FANUC, ABB, etc.)
• Strong offline programming skills (RoboGuide, RobotStudio, etc.)
• Fluency in robot safety validation
• Structured troubleshooting and reliability mindset

• Competence in technical standards, structured problem-solving, risk-based decision-making, and controlled documentation

• Experience in coaching, competency assessment, and knowledge transfer in a multicultural English/Arabic workplace

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Robotics Engineering
• 5 – 8 years of experience in industrial robotics; multi-brand experience required, especially with FANUC
• Demonstrated experience in robot commissioning, offline programming, and safety validation
• Proven track record of robot uptime and cycle time optimization
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic is strongly preferred
• Preferred: experience with electric vehicle (EV) or automotive greenfield launch; and collaborative-robot experience
• Demonstrated experience with commissioning, FAT/SAT, launch, production readiness or high-volume manufacturing ramp within the role discipline
• Understanding of IATF 16949, APQP/change control, machine/HV safety, and traceability requirements applicable to the role
• Preferred: recognized discipline certification, Lean/Six Sigma, greenfield EV/automotive launch experience, and knowledge of KSA workforce development
