The Data Engineering team at Careem is responsible for the governed, reliable, and performant data layer that drives decision-making. The team designs, builds, and operates the data warehouse, curated data marts, and real-time pipelines, bridging raw data and actionable insights. Members collaborate closely with business, product, and analytics teams to model data that answers complex questions across various domains.

This full-time position based in Dubai offers a flexible work setting of 4 days in office and 1 day from home, with the option to work remotely from any country for 30 days a year. Employees enjoy unlimited vacation days, and those in individual contributor roles in tech work 2 office days and 3 days from home per week.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead technical improvements in scalability, stability, accuracy, speed, and efficiency of existing data systems.
  • Develop strategy for long-term Data Platform architecture in collaboration with business units and engineering teams.
  • Conceptualize and manage data architecture for large-scale projects while balancing design and operational cost-benefit trade-offs.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to meet data needs and present key data insights effectively.
  • Implement best practices for data infrastructure and automation.
  • Design and develop high-performance data models and pipelines for the Data Lake and Data Warehouse.
  • Monitor and resolve data quality, consistency, and integrity issues.
  • Support onboarding and assist new engineers joining the team.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of hands-on engineering experience with a focus on leading projects.
  • 6+ years in data platform and data engineering roles.
  • Expertise in large-scale data architecture design, skilled in SQL, Python, and big data technologies like SparkSQL or Trino.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data visualization tools.
  • Ability to translate complex data into strategic insights.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment focused on continuous improvement and learning.
