Staff Software Engineer

About the Role
As a Staff Software Engineer at the company, you will operate across multiple levels, including a team, domain, chapter, and the wider Tech organization. Your responsibilities will encompass providing technical mentorship, managing complex initiatives, collaborating with Engineering, Product, and Data counterparts, and contributing to the evolution of your Chapter Vision and Strategy. Your end-to-end ownership of specific areas will be crucial for driving improvement and simplifying complex systems, ultimately enhancing developer experience across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Voice of your chapter, helping teams understand Chapter direction and providing hands-on technical mentorship.
• Drive critical, complex initiatives impacting multiple teams.
• Establish partnerships with Engineering, Product, and Data counterparts, driving the improvement of systems and processes.
• Lead the RFC review process to foster a comprehensive understanding of overall app architecture.
• Contribute to the evolution of your Chapter Vision & Strategy and sponsor key Chapter initiatives.
• Orchestrate mentorship efforts across the wider tech organization.
• Enhance overall developer experience, questioning and driving improvement across the organization.

Qualifications

• Empathetic and able to build relationships easily.

• Strong understanding of lean/agile values, principles, and associated practices.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years within an Extreme Programming environment (TDD, Pair Programming, Simple Design, Continuous Refactoring).
• Solid experience building large-scale applications using modern programming languages (e.g., C#, Java, Go).
• Proven ability to mentor other engineers.
• Expertise in Distributed Systems Architecture (Microservices, Event-Driven, RESTful Services) and familiarity with the mobile landscape.
• Proficient in testing with a focus on automated end-to-end quality.
• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases and exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
• Experience with Trunk Based Development and Continuous Delivery.
