About the Team:
The Careem Data and ML Platform team aims to abstract big data complexities and provide fast, reliable, and secure access to data. As a staff software engineer, you will join the data processing and computation platform team, leveraging open-source technologies like Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, and Apache Trino to solve regional challenges in real-time.
What You'll Do:
- Develop a modern data platform with efficient reusable components, applying innovative and creative solutions to data engineering challenges.
- Design, architect, implement, and test rapid prototypes that illustrate data value for diverse audiences.
- Focus on optimizing the efficiency of code and resources across the cluster while accelerating compute workloads.
- Enhance engineering processes and systems to scale the codebase and productivity.
- Collaborate globally in a fast-paced environment to create reusable and scalable data pipelines.
What You’ll Need:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in software development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Strong expertise in Scala, Java, or similar programming languages.
- Proven track record of building distributed systems or working on large-scale projects.
- Deep understanding of cloud-native Big Data technologies.
- Solid foundation in software engineering principles and design best practices.
- Passion for high-quality, maintainable, and performant software in a collaborative global team.
- Experience with cloud control planes (AWS, GCP, etc.) or database internals, including query optimization.
- Contributions to open-source projects preferred.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
Work Conditions:
- Full-time position
- 4 days a week in office & 1 day from home
- Option to work remotely from any country in the world for 30 days a year
- Unlimited vacation days per year (for individual contributors in tech, 2 office days a week and 3 work from home days)
