Staff Software Engineer I

As a Staff Software Engineer I at Careem, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of engineering culture and technical foundations in the region. We are particularly interested in senior technology leaders with experience in building and scaling complex engineering systems in high-growth tech environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead internal engineering initiatives to design and build scalable, secure, and maintainable systems that enhance engineering productivity and reliability across Careem.
• Define system architecture for complex backend systems, focusing on performance, modularity, and extensibility, utilizing deep expertise in Java, Golang, and modern platforms.
• Apply machine learning, platformization, and agentic AI innovations to improve customer experiences at scale.
• Shape roadmaps and drive technical decisions with a product-centric mindset to ensure positive impacts on customer and business outcomes.
• Uphold high standards in code quality, system design, testing, and operational excellence while cultivating a strong engineering culture across the MENA region.
• Mentor engineers and foster continuous learning to grow technical leadership within the organization.
• Streamline workflows and minimize toil through automation in CI/CD, observability, and configuration management.
• Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, product, and security teams to deliver robust solutions.
• Contribute to Careem’s mission of shaping the future in mobility, fintech, and everyday services by building solid technical foundations.
