Strategy & Project Management Director - Remittances/Wallets

About the Role
Lead the development and execution of the company's international wallet strategy in markets outside the company's operating countries, focusing on diaspora customers whose primary need is sending money back to their home markets. The role will involve building wallet propositions that combine remittances with everyday financial services and payments to drive customer engagement and long-term value.

Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Market Development

• Define and execute the company's international wallet growth strategy across priority diaspora corridors, identifying target markets based on remittance flows, diaspora population size, and competitive dynamics.
• Develop business cases, market-entry plans, and go-to-market strategies for each priority corridor, including sizing, investment requirements, and expected returns.
• Conduct ongoing market and competitor analysis to refine prioritization and identify emerging opportunities or threats.

Product & Proposition Development

• Design and launch wallet products focused on international remittances as the core use case, layering in bill payments, card-based services, merchant payments, and other everyday financial use cases to drive engagement.
• Define the product roadmap and prioritize features based on customer needs, corridor economics, and competitive positioning.
• Work with product, design, and technology teams to ensure the wallet experience is intuitive and tailored to diaspora customer needs.

Partnerships & Licensing

• Build and manage relationships with banks, payment networks, remittance and fintech partners, and regulators across target markets.
• Lead partnership negotiations and structure commercial agreements that support scalable, compliant international money movement.
• Coordinate licensing and regulatory approval processes required to launch and operate in new markets.

Cross-Functional Execution

• Coordinate cross-functional workstreams spanning product, technology, compliance, licensing, treasury, risk, and commercial teams to deliver launches on time.
• Establish project plans, milestones, and governance frameworks to manage execution across multiple corridors in parallel.
• Proactively identify and resolve execution risks, dependencies, and roadblocks across workstreams.

Performance & Continuous Improvement

• Monitor performance, customer adoption, transaction volumes, and unit economics for each market, reporting regularly to senior leadership.
• Drive continuous improvement of wallet propositions based on performance data, customer feedback, and market learnings.
• Identify opportunities to scale successful propositions into additional corridors and markets.

Education & Experience

• 10+ years of experience in fintech, payments, digital wallets, remittances, or financial services.
• Strong understanding of cross-border payments and diaspora customer segments.
• Experience launching and scaling digital financial products across multiple markets.
• Ability to manage complex cross-functional programs and stakeholder relationships.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with strong execution capabilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
• MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification preferred.
