We are hiring a System Software Engineer to focus on the modern C and C++ programming languages and their ecosystem on Ubuntu. The role involves delivering the best possible GCC and LLVM runtimes, developer experience, and supporting tooling in Ubuntu. As a System Software Engineer, you will work on critical toolchains to enhance the development, distribution, and consumption of software built with GCC and LLVM. You will collaborate with a distributed team, write high-quality code, debug issues, and review code produced by other engineers. Your contributions will impact the entire Ubuntu family, from Desktop to Server, to cloud images.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team.
  • Select, integrate, and package best-of-breed tooling with Ubuntu.
  • Write high-quality code to create new features.
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality code to fix them.
  • Review code and participate in design discussions.

Work Conditions:

  • Remote work with global travel (2 to 4 weeks per year for internal and external events).
  • A distributed work environment with in-person team sprints twice a year.

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience with GCC or LLVM, ideally in cloud-native software and Linux.
  • Experience in packaging software for Debian and Ubuntu.
  • Strong academic background and a degree in a technical subject or a compelling alternative narrative.
  • Passion for technology, strong interpersonal skills, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events.
