Key Accountabilities:
- Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, and performance that impact your team and others.
- Solve technical problems of the highest scope and complexity for your team.
- Exert significant influence on the overall objectives and long-range goals of your team.
- Shepherd the definition and improvement of internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale web environment, maintaining and advocating for these standards through code reviews.
- Drive innovation on the team, demonstrating a willingness to experiment and address complex problems.
- Actively seek out and propose solutions for difficult impediments to team efficiency (technical debt).
- Engage with customers and other external stakeholders as a consultant and spokesperson for your team's work.
- Provide mentorship to all engineers on your team, helping them grow in their technical responsibilities and removing blockers to their autonomy.
- Confidently ship large features and improvements with minimal guidance, collaborating with the team on larger projects.
- Mentor teammates in an open, respectful, flexible, and empathetic manner, seeking out mentoring opportunities to create team redundancy and backfill ability, as well as mentoring members of other teams as needed.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and teammates to decide on the team's engineering work based on the organization's strategy, sometimes involving organizational strategy work.
- Evaluate and create new product features in collaboration with the product team, participating in the team roadmap and providing feedback to simplify product and technical design through proactive conversations.
Specialist Skills / Technical Knowledge Required:
- Consistently write production-ready code that is easily testable, understandable by other developers, and accounts for edge cases and errors, favoring self-documenting code while knowing when comments are appropriate.
- Understand the team's testing approach, using quality metrics to identify gaps, and work with the team to recommend solutions compliant with accepted testing frameworks and the testing pyramid.
- Proficient in systematic debugging to diagnose all issues within your domain.
- Drive monitoring work based on the organization's monitoring philosophy, aware of operational data for your team’s domain and using it to drive changes for stability and performance improvements.
- Hold expertise in your team's domain, including the breadth of services, interactions, and data flows between systems, while understanding adjacent domains.
- Architect services and systems using well-accepted design patterns to enable iterative, autonomous development and future scalability.
- Anticipate future use cases to make design decisions that minimize the cost of future changes.
