ABOUT THE TEAM
The Technical Operations team provides first-line remote technical support to ensure our autonomous systems operate reliably in the world's most challenging maritime environments. We collaborate closely with Engineering, Production, and Operations to connect design with deployment, accelerate product iteration, and deliver resilient systems that support national security, maritime intelligence, and scientific exploration missions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Advanced Diagnostics: Resolve complex hardware, software, and networking issues using Linux command-line tools, telemetry, and shell scripting to ensure mission success.
- System Ownership: Own technical outcomes for assigned vehicles, including reliability, performance (SLIs/SLOs), and operational readiness.
- Root Cause Analysis: Lead in-depth root cause analyses (RCA) for field failures, ordering causes by likelihood using imperfect datasets, and drive corrective actions across design, processes, and tools.
- Embedded Collaboration: Work side-by-side with Engineering design teams to provide feedback on system architecture and evaluate solutions through system integration testing.
- Global Deployment: Prepare for global deployments (up to 30% travel), leading vehicle preparation, troubleshooting, and mission execution, while overseeing third-party contractors.
- Incident Response: Engage in on-call rotations to provide real-time troubleshooting for high-priority autonomous fleet incidents.
- Documentation & Training: Create clear work instructions, process standards, and technical training to facilitate the transition from prototype to scalable operation.
- Operational Maintenance: Keep accurate records and inventories, adhering to and enhancing strict safety and work standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred; fields such as Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Robotics, Software, Aerospace, or related technical disciplines are ideal.
- 2+ years of experience supporting complex embedded systems, robotics, or autonomous hardware in production or field settings.
- Ability to independently interpret electrical diagrams/schematics and mechanical drawings to implement repairs and modifications.
- Hands-on experience with serial and network protocols (CAN, RS-485, RS-232, SPI, I2C, and TCP/IP).
- Proficiency with Linux OS and capable of writing/understanding shell scripts for diagnostic tasks; experience with APIs is a bonus.
- Strong aptitude to clearly communicate complex technical failures into understandable narratives for cross-functional teams and executive leadership.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Physical Strength & Agility: Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs. and engage in physical activity (bending, kneeling, standing) throughout a full shift.
- Manual Precision: High manual dexterity and visual acuity for the safe operation of power tools and precision assembly/repairs.
- Environmental Adaptability: Comfortable in challenging settings, including confined spaces, heights, and outdoor conditions with variable weather (high heat, cold, wind).
- Safety & PPE: Willingness to work around industrial materials while following PPE requirements, including respirators and eye/ear protection as required.
- Travel: Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time, including renting and operating motor vehicles.
- Schedule: Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation is required.
