About the Role
The Technologist II - Pathology Sciences plays a crucial role in the commissioning of relevant sections within the organization. This includes the commissioning of equipment and IT systems, recruitment, onboarding and training of staff, as well as preparing policies and procedures according to CAP and JCI standards. The role involves performing pre-batching, pooling, and processing of human donor samples for PCR testing in compliance with established Standard Operating Procedures. The incumbent is an integral part of a team of Biomedical Scientists/Technologists that delivers high-quality services in their specialty while providing operational oversight within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes, supervises, and participates in the work of the section; works unsupervised but under the direction of the Supervisor - Pathology Sciences.
  • Answers inquiries and communicates patient results to clinicians, surgeons, and nursing staff both internally and externally.
  • Provides specialist technical advice on specimen handling to clinicians, surgeons, and nursing staff.
  • Actively supervises other staff within their section to ensure an efficient throughput of work as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Assists the Supervisor - Pathology Sciences in implementing management decisions affecting the sections.
  • Maintains cooperation between sections and disciplines by regular liaison with other section leads and senior staff, including attendance at staff meetings.
  • Leads by example to motivate staff to create high-quality work and contribute meaningfully.
  • Actively participates in the technical work of the section.
  • Ensures adequate stocks of reagents and consumables are available for efficient running of the service in liaison with the Supervisor - Pathology Sciences.
  • Uses the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to generate workload statistics and run queries.
  • Provides technical advice on and assists in the selection of new equipment in consultation with the Supervisor - Pathology Sciences.
  • Performs all aspects of PCR pre-batching, pooling, processing, test result entry, equipment maintenance, and sample management functions to ensure accuracy and timely reporting.
  • Conducts routine and non-routine analyses of DNA according to established testing methods and protocols in a high throughput environment.
  • Monitors and advises on the use of reagents and consumables in the section.
  • Takes responsibility for the maintenance and safe use of equipment within the section.
  • Reviews batching and pooling documents, quality control, and other reports for accuracy and compliance to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Participates in operational excellence initiatives and projects to drive a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Facilitates improvements to processes and methodologies where appropriate.
  • Assists in organizing and scheduling analytical activities to ensure service requests are accurately addressed within the designated time.
  • Communicates with the Lab Coordinator and stakeholders regarding laboratory processes or quality issues.
  • Utilizes laboratory data handling systems to document, communicate, and archive results.
  • Monitors the quality of critical testing equipment, performing calibrations, verifications, and maintenance as necessary.
  • Documents out-of-tolerance occurrences and takes corrective action per the laboratory's quality management systems.
  • Networks with other technical experts to leverage problem-solving expertise and share technology where appropriate.
  • Contributes to value creation through continuous improvement of procedures in analytical work processes and related tools and performance metrics.
  • Ensures the integrity of analytical data and timely interpretation of results, updating company databases as necessary.
  • Performs work to the highest standards of safety and quality, maintaining a clean and tidy working environment.
  • Proactively develops and expands knowledge of other analytical techniques.
  • Adheres to the organization's standards as documented in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.
  • Promotes and upholds the organization’s values.

Qualifications
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills – Requirements
Essential
Education
Bachelor’s degree in lab-based Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biology or other biological science field.
Experience

  • 5+ years of experience working with advanced analytical lab equipment (liquid handlers, automatic pipettes, plate readers).
  • Experience in LIS operations.
    Certification and Licensure
  • License in the country of origin or country of practice.
  • Meets licensing requirements of the State of Qatar.
    Job Specific Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of ISO 15189/CPA/CAP/JCI standards and guidelines.
  • Experience in team management.
  • Experience in evaluating new technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability in conducting meetings and making presentations.
  • Strong attention to detail and a focused work ethic.
  • Flexibility in managing schedules.
  • Active listening skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
