Delivery & Request Management

  • Own the intake and prioritization process for all Technology requests.
  • Allocate work across the team based on business priority, capacity, and agreed deadlines.
  • Require clear owners, estimates, milestones, and acceptance criteria before significant work begins.
  • Track deliverables and projects, resolving blockers before deadlines are missed.
  • Challenge unnecessary complexity, scope creep, and technical rabbit holes where they do not materially improve the business outcome.
  • Review team output against quality, documentation, and handover standards before release.
  • Ensure stakeholders receive clear updates on progress, risks, and delays.

Team Leadership & Management

  • Line manage team members across IT, Brand & Design, AI, and other Technology functions.
  • Set clear objectives, delegate work, and hold team members accountable for delivery.
  • Run regular one-to-ones, performance reviews, and development plans.
  • Manage specialists with different working styles and technical backgrounds.
  • Ensure strong individual contributors operate effectively as part of a team rather than in isolation.
  • Develop technical staff into effective team members and future managers where appropriate.
  • Identify capability gaps and lead recruitment, onboarding, and team structure as the function grows.
  • Ensure delegation, succession planning, and knowledge transfer across all areas.

Technical Oversight & Challenge

  • Maintain sufficient working understanding across IT infrastructure, software, security, AI, digital systems, and Brand & Design to manage the function effectively.
  • Ask the right questions and test assumptions rather than accepting technical explanations at face value.
  • Challenge estimates, proposed solutions, timelines, and costs where they do not appear reasonable.
  • Ensure technical solutions are proportionate to the business need, cost, and risk.
  • Know when to challenge and when to defer to genuine specialist expertise.
  • Escalate matters requiring deeper technical judgment rather than pretending to be the technical expert.
  • Translate technical decisions into clear business impact, cost, risk, and timelines for senior leadership.

Stakeholder & Client Management

  • Serve as the Technology contact for the CEO, COO, and business heads.
  • Translate business requirements into clear, deliverable briefs for the team.
  • Manage Technology client relationships, including scope, expectations, and escalations.
  • Run regular client service reviews against agreed deliverables and service levels.
  • Ensure technical teams communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Raise risks and issues early, together with clear options and recommendations.

Commercial & Financial Management

  • Track Technology spend against budgets set by senior leadership.
  • Track team utilization and billable client hours against agreed targets.
  • Support senior leadership with scoping and pricing technology work for clients.
  • Manage vendor contracts, renewals, and external suppliers to control costs and avoid unnecessary lock-in.
  • Assess whether capabilities should be built internally, outsourced, or supported through specialist suppliers.
  • Ensure Technology resources are focused on work that creates clear business or client value.

Strategy & Planning

  • Own and coordinate the Technology roadmap, working with technical leads and senior leadership to determine priorities.
  • Balance resources and priorities across IT, AI, Brand & Design, and other Technology capabilities.
  • Present monthly plans, progress, risks, and resource requirements to the CEO and COO.
  • Assess new technologies and tools based on business value, cost, risk, and strategic fit.
  • Plan team capacity and skills against the roadmap and expected client demand.
  • Ensure short-term operational demands do not prevent progress on longer-term priorities.

Documentation, Governance & Business Continuity

  • Ensure all critical systems, processes, and projects are documented to a standard that allows another suitably skilled person to operate them.
  • Regularly test whether documentation is usable through handover and independent execution.
  • Treat undocumented systems and single-person knowledge dependencies as operational risks.
  • Ensure no critical system or service depends on one individual.
  • Enforce security, access control, and data protection standards across all Technology teams.
  • Ensure appropriate handover, version control, and documentation standards are followed.
  • Resolve technical disagreements within the team, escalating material risks where appropriate.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience, including 4+ years managing teams with direct reports.
  • Experience managing technical teams in IT, digital, agency, or managed services.
  • Proven record managing delivery, priorities, and requests across multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience managing suppliers and delivering commercial outcomes.
  • Client-facing account management or service review experience.
  • Sufficient technical understanding to challenge estimates, proposals, and decisions.
  • Excellent communication with leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
