As an Ubuntu Security Engineer, you will work to monitor, triage, respond to, and document vulnerabilities in open-source software. This role involves collaboration with internal and external partners to identify, prioritize, and remediate security issues. It also includes producing security assessments, conducting code reviews, and engaging with the open-source community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing, fixing, and testing vulnerabilities in open-source packages
  • Keeping track of vulnerabilities in the Ubuntu ecosystem
  • Collaborating with other teams to exchange or develop vulnerability patches
  • Auditing source code for vulnerabilities
  • Building features and tools to enhance the security of Ubuntu

Requirements:

  • Thorough understanding of common categories of security vulnerabilities
  • Familiarity with open-source development tools and methodologies
  • Skills in one or more of the following: C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication abilities with team and community members
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  • A proactive, result-oriented mindset
