We are hiring a UX Designer for our Design System Team. This role is crucial in making open source software accessible worldwide. The Design function ensures that the experience of our software is aligned with our intentions and meets the needs of our community and customers. The Design System UX Designer will define, evolve, and advocate for a consistent use of the design system across our products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and evolve Canonical's design system, ensuring adoption, consistency, scalability, and accessibility across products.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers, and stakeholders to convert user needs and brand principles into reusable components, patterns, and guidelines.
- Advocate for design system best practices to ensure a cohesive user experience.
- Design and document UI components, design tokens, and interaction patterns.
- Ensure timely delivery of the design system roadmap and maintain alignment across teams.
- Promote accessibility, performance, and scalability in design system decisions based on data and technological advancements.
- Stay updated with industry trends to maintain innovation while ensuring system coherence.
Requirements:
- Relevant experience in UX/product design with a strong focus on design systems in complex environments.
- Portfolio showcasing expertise in design systems, including component libraries and documentation.
- Exceptional educational background in design or a related behavioral science discipline.
- Proficiency in Figma, Storybook, and design token workflows.
- Experience collaborating with engineers, bridging design and code effectively.
- Strong ability to apply the design process and document design decisions clearly.
- Excellent attention to detail and a systemic approach to complex design challenges.
- Commitment to transparent project delivery and ownership of team deadlines.
- Passion for balancing consistency and innovation.
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
