Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are hiring a UX Designer for Infrastructure to collaborate with engineering teams at Canonical to create open-source tools for building clouds and managing compute clusters globally.

Our design team aims to transform complex open-source software into efficient, intuitive products that enhance how complex systems are built. We seek a talented user experience designer who shares our ambitions and will report to the Infrastructure design manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build tools to enable users to create their own cloud experiences (e.g., MAAS, LXD, MicroCloud, Canonical k8s).
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers to shape the future of Data Centers: Self-sovereign Clouds.
  • Support design and UX for deeply complex products.
  • Evolve and evangelize design systems that promote consistency and efficiency.
  • Understand the interconnected constraints of your work.
  • Support working groups that enable Canonical design's horizontal efforts.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record.
  • Degree or equivalent in User Experience, Design, or STEM, or an alternative compelling narrative.
  • Passion for user experience, technology, and design.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with engineers, designers, and executives.
  • Confidence in user research practices and engagement with the latest design research.
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events.
