VFX Artist

About the Role
The company is looking for a talented VFX Artist with hands-on Spine 2D experience to join our Nucleo team. You’ll create polished, engaging animations and visual effects that bring characters, symbols, features, and wins to life across our online slot games. We’re looking for someone with a strong eye for motion, timing, and game feel who can take VFX and Spine animation tasks from brief through to clean, production-ready delivery while working closely with artists, designers, and developers.

Key Responsibilities
Spine Animation & Rigging

• Create and refine Spine 2D animations for characters and symbols.
• Animate backgrounds, UI elements, and gameplay features.
• Build idle, anticipation, win, trigger, celebration, and transition states.
• Build and maintain clean rigs, meshes, weights, and reusable setups.

Game VFX & Feature Effects

• Design stylised in-game VFX: glows, bursts, trails, particles.
• Create coin and celebration effects and screen accents.
• Build win effects and feature transitions that reinforce game feel.
• Translate briefs and mechanics into readable, responsive motion.

Asset Preparation & Optimisation

• Prepare layered artwork, sprites, and sequences for production.
• Build texture atlases and Spine project files for handoff.
• Maintain clear naming, events, and export structures.
• Optimise animation complexity, loops, and meshes for web/mobile.

Collaboration & Delivery

• Align motion with game concept and feature behaviour with the team.
• Align with technical requirements from developers.
• Respond to feedback and iterate efficiently.
• Troubleshoot integration issues and deliver production-ready assets.

Quality & Process Improvement

• Self-check animation quality, timing, and visual consistency before review.
• Self-check file hygiene to avoid integration defects.
• Minimise avoidable rework through upfront checks.
• Suggest improvements to reusable effects, templates, and workflows.

Qualification and Experience
Required:

• At least 3 years in 2D game animation and/or game VFX.
• Hands-on production use of Spine 2D.
• Equivalent depth in a comparable tool (DragonBones, Spriter) considered, with fast ramp-up on Spine.
• Demonstrable character, symbol, UI, and gameplay animation experience.
• Games industry experience required; slot-specific experience not required.
• Strong portfolio or demo reel showing Spine and VFX work.
• Production-ready examples preferred, not mandatory.
• Solid grasp of timing, anticipation, easing, impact, secondary motion, and loops.
• Working knowledge of rigging, meshes, weights, and asset optimisation.
• Able to deliver clean, organised assets with limited supervision.

Nice to Have:

• Experience in iGaming, online slots, casino or feature-driven games.
• Photoshop and/or After Effects experience.
• Basic understanding of game-engine integration (e.g. Unity).
• Experience in fast-paced, multi-project or international production.

Technical and Soft Skills:

• Spine 2D: rigging, meshes, weights, states, events, loops, export hygiene.
• 2D animation and stylised game VFX.
• Strong sense of timing, motion, impact, and visual hierarchy.
• Adobe Photoshop; After Effects or similar an advantage.
• Asset optimisation for web/mobile performance and integration.
• Strong attention to detail; can match an established art style.
• Clear communication and constructive feedback handling.
• Good organisation and time management across multiple tasks.
