The WHS Officer must be an effective communicator and convey clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. This role involves instructing and training Operations leaders in company WHS policies and assisting key site stakeholders in incorporating safety standards at their site. The WHS Officer will also identify best practices and integrate these methodologies into standards for continuous improvement towards safety excellence.
The WHS Officer will be part of the WHS team and report to the site WHS manager. A flexible working schedule is required, including shifts during days and nights. A thorough understanding of local/regional regulations and company policy is essential.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable company WHS Standards/Policies.
- Measure site performance against published safety policy requirements and identify plans to address deficiencies.
- Deliver on-time and quality projects to Operations.
- Analyze safety metrics, reviewing weekly and monthly incident trends to allocate resources effectively to high-risk areas.
- Ensure proper incident investigations and the closure of corrective and preventive actions.
- Perform frequent site safety audits to identify non-compliant equipment and/or processes.
- Implement solutions to eliminate exposure to risks and prevent injury.
- Audit record-keeping practices to ensure alignment with global WHS standards and local regulations.
- Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure accurate and consistent training, auditing, and scoring methods.
- Lead and mentor safety associates in assigned facilities.
- Ensure site leadership and associates are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy.
- Audit the quality, delivery, and effectiveness of all required safety training.
- Ensure proper PPE inventory at site and coordinate with procurement teams for compliance.
- Collaborate with facility teams to ensure preventive maintenance of all fire protection and emergency equipment.
- Ensure compliance with basic fire fighting training and first aid training requirements.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience in Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics and Communication/Instrumentation and Controls.
- NEBOSH or IOSH certified.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in speaking, writing, and reading fluent English.
