Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are seeking an Associate Support Engineer to support customers leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer with a passion for Linux and open-source technologies, aiming to work alongside some of the best professionals in the industry.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical support from your remote home office.
  • Owning new cases via telephone, email, and web.
  • Advocating for internal customers and keeping them updated.
  • Ensuring support cases are managed according to our Service Level Agreement (SLA) with high customer satisfaction.
  • Contributing to and maintaining knowledge base articles.
  • Drafting and distributing technical notices.
  • Prioritizing tasks effectively and communicating regularly with the team.
  • Participating in a weekend working rotation as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic track record from high school and university with a technical degree (Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, etc.) or a compelling alternative path.
  • Experience with Linux troubleshooting and server administration.
  • Knowledge of programming fundamentals in any language (bash, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, C/C++, Go).
  • Understanding of networking, virtualization, and cloud computing concepts.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Language Requirements:

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills are essential.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel internationally for up to two weeks, twice a year for company events.
  • Background check will be performed.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience supporting virtualized environments (KVM, Virtual Box, VMWare).
  • Active contribution to open-source projects or forums.
