Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is extensively utilized in transformative enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, AI, data science, engineering innovation, and IoT. As an Associate Support Engineer at Canonical, you will help support the technical needs of customers using Ubuntu and other open-source products.

In this hands-on role, you will tackle challenging technical problems, including triaging complex cloud environments and addressing various OS configuration issues. You will be responsible for managing and resolving support cases while maintaining the highest level of customer satisfaction. The position involves:

  • Providing technical support from your remote home office.
  • Taking ownership of new cases via various communication channels.
  • Advocating for internal customers and keeping them updated.
  • Contributing to knowledge base articles and drafting technical notices.
  • Engaging in continuous learning as products evolve.
  • Participating in a weekend working rotation.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university.
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical subject (Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with Linux troubleshooting and server administration.
  • Basic programming skills in languages such as bash, Perl, Ruby, Javascript, C/C++, or Go.
  • Understanding of networking and virtualization/cloud computing concepts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure in a customer-facing environment.
  • Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for company events.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience supporting virtualized environments (KVM, Virtual Box, VMWare).
  • Active contribution to open-source projects or communities.
