About the Job:
This is an opportunity to run a field engineering team, helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions in public clouds and their own data centers. The role involves overseeing a team of cloud solutions architects and working across a broad range of cloud offerings including Ubuntu, virtualization, Kubernetes, and sophisticated open source solutions for various industries such as telco, finance, healthcare, and media.

As a Cloud Field Engineering Manager at Canonical, you will be responsible for line management and career guidance, developing engineering talent, and driving collaboration with other teams and customers. You will take part in technical presales to help achieve quarterly goals and coach your team ranging from graduates to seniors. The position requires you to ensure your team delivers high-quality results, engage with stakeholders, and implement disciplined engineering processes.

What Your Day Will Look Like:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, from graduate to senior levels
  • Work remotely within a single major time zone
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback
  • Identify and measure team health indicators
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
  • Develop and promote great engineering and organizational practices
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects
  • Actively participate in the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders

What We Are Looking For:

  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts & technologies (Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph, etc.)
  • Practical knowledge of Linux and networking
  • Experience in technical presales
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Passion for developing and growing people
  • Experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring engineers
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% for company events, tech events, and customer meetings
  • Additional language skills, specifically Spanish or French, are preferred
  • Python knowledge is a plus
  • Experience collaborating with external partners and internal teams
