About the Job: This role involves running a field engineering team at Canonical, aiding customers in understanding and implementing Canonical's open-source solutions within public clouds and their own data centers. The position encompasses a wide array of cloud offerings, including Ubuntu, virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and the implementation of advanced open-source solutions such as MLops platforms and data platforms. As the organization grows and enters new industries such as telecommunications, finance, healthcare, and media, the role requires designing and developing new solutions to meet customer needs.

Cloud Field Engineering Managers at Canonical are expected to be exceptional engineers who are comfortable troubleshooting technical challenges and engaging in technical presales discussions with clients. The role entails strengthening the team’s direction, focus, and overall delivery, while also engaging in project delivery, mentoring, and career development of team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of Field Engineers, from graduate to senior levels focused on Presales and Professional Services.
  • Solve customer challenges by advocating for Canonical’s technologies and acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Manage team health indicators and implement efficient engineering processes.
  • Represent the team and its work to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Collaborate with leadership and other teams to ensure alignment and effective project delivery.

Requirements:

  • Proficient knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Openstack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph).
  • Practical experience with Linux and networking.
  • Experience in technical presales is essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • A demonstrated passion for developing and mentoring engineers, with an organized approach to delivering high-quality results.
  • A strong academic background, preferably from university.
  • Ability to travel as necessary for company events, tech conferences, and client meetings.

Preferred Skills:

  • Second language proficiency, particularly in Spanish or French, is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Python.
  • Experience in collaborating with external partners and multiple internal teams.
