About the Job:
This is an opportunity to lead a field engineering team, assisting customers in understanding and implementing Canonical's open-source solutions both in public clouds and private data centers. The work spans a variety of cloud offerings, including Ubuntu, virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and sophisticated open-source solutions such as MLops platforms and data platforms. As Canonical expands into new industries like telco, finance, healthcare, and media, the role involves designing and developing new open-source solutions to meet customer needs.

Engineering Managers at Canonical should be outstanding engineers capable of troubleshooting technical issues and engaging in technical presales conversations. They contribute to project delivery and shape the direction and focus of their teams. The role involves direct line management responsibilities, career guidance, and promoting technical collaboration across teams.

Work Conditions:
Full-time, Remote, with a willingness to travel up to 40% of the time

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of Field Engineers in the areas of Presales and Professional Services.
  • Solve customer challenges through technological promotion and trusted advisory.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and career development feedback.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators and implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Actively represent your team and products to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Participate in presales discussions to achieve departmental goals.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies, including Kubernetes, Openstack, AWS, GCP, Azure, and Ceph.
  • Practical experience with Linux and networking.
  • Experience in technical presales.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Passion for developing and growing engineering talent.
  • Experience in mentoring and leading engineers.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in a second language, ideally Spanish or French.
  • Knowledge of Python.
  • Experience collaborating with external partners and multiple internal teams.
