Position

This is an opportunity to lead a Professional Services (Field Engineering) team, helping customers comprehend and implement Canonical's open source solutions in public clouds and private data centers. The role encompasses a wide range of cloud offerings, including Ubuntu, virtualization, private cloud solutions, Kubernetes, and advanced open source implementations such as MLops and data platforms. As we expand our services into sectors like telecommunications, finance, healthcare, and media, we are designing new open source solutions tailored to meet diverse customer needs.

Engineering Managers at Canonical are expected to be exceptional engineers themselves, skilled in troubleshooting technical issues and engaging in technical presales discussions with customers. They should contribute to project delivery while primarily guiding the team's direction, focus, and overall delivery. We prioritize the development of management skills among our engineers interested in leadership roles.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, from graduates to senior professionals.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators and implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Represent your team and products to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Develop and promote excellent engineering and organizational practices.
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
  • Actively participate in technical presales to support departmental objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies such as Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, and Ceph.
  • Practical experience with Linux and networking.
  • Experience in technical presales.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proven ability to develop and grow engineering talent.
  • Strong experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring engineers.
  • Organized with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% for internal and external engagements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in a second language, preferably Spanish or French.
  • Knowledge of Python.
  • Experience collaborating with external partners and internal teams.
