Position

This role presents an opportunity to lead a Professional Services team (Field Engineering) at Canonical, assisting customers in understanding and implementing Canonical's open-source solutions within public clouds and their own data centers. The position encompasses a wide range of cloud offerings, including Ubuntu, virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and advanced open-source solutions like MLops platforms and data platforms. As Canonical expands into new industries such as telecommunications, finance, healthcare, and media, the need for innovative open-source solutions is growing.

We value Engineering Managers who are not only outstanding engineers but also exceptional leaders capable of troubleshooting technical issues and engaging in technical presales discussions. The role includes hands-on project delivery as well as significant contributions to shaping the team’s direction and success.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers of varying experience levels, from graduate to senior.
  • Collaborate with teams in your time zone while working remotely.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback to team members.
  • Identify and monitor team health indicators.
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Represent the team and product to stakeholders, partners, and clients.
  • Promote effective engineering and organizational practices.
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
  • Participate actively as part of the leadership team.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph).
  • Practical knowledge of Linux and networking.
  • Experience in technical presales.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • A passion for developing and growing team members.
  • A proven track record of leading, coaching, and mentoring engineers.
  • Organizational skills to ensure timely delivery of high-quality results.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% for internal events, external tech events, and customer meetings.
  • Preferred second language: Spanish or French.
  • Knowledge of Python and experience with external partners or internal team collaborations are a plus.
