About the Job
Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely utilized in breakthrough initiatives such as public cloud, data science, artificial intelligence, engineering innovation, and the Internet of Things (IoT). We serve a diverse range of customers, including the world's foremost public cloud and silicon providers, as well as industry leaders across various sectors.

We are hiring a Cloud Support Engineer to deliver an outstanding technical support experience across the entire cloud technical stack at Canonical. This role requires a combination of Linux support, software engineering skills, and a deep understanding of the full stack—ranging from hardware to applications, networking, Linux, and open source—to assist our customers in maximizing their solutions.

The Cloud Support Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Applying knowledge of Linux virtualization (using Libvirt/KVM) and containers (including Kubernetes) to support customized solutions for our customers.
  • Acting as the technical authority, leveraging experience with popular open source software such as PostgreSQL, Corosync/Pacemaker, MongoDB, MySQL, and Apache.
  • Providing guidance on deployed architecture, implementing solutions for complex problems, and helping customers with successful data-center infrastructure operations.
  • Regularly communicating with customer teams regarding ongoing issues.

What We Are Looking For

  • A BA/BS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience in open source development or scripting.
  • Professional experience with OpenStack is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes and/or Ceph is desirable.
  • Fluent in English, with excellent communication skills and experience in customer-facing roles.
  • High motivation, ability to multi-task, and reliability in following up on commitments.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies such as LXD, Snaps, MAAS, Juju, and Ubuntu.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.

If you are passionate about the latest open source technologies, technical support, cloud-native development, and data-center technologies, this role will be an exciting opportunity for you.

What We Offer
We consider geographical location, experience, and performance when shaping compensation, and we conduct annual reviews to acknowledge outstanding performance. The benefits for team members include:

  • Distributed work environment with twice-yearly team sprints in person.
  • Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year.
  • Annual compensation review.
  • Recognition rewards.
  • Generous holiday leave and maternity/paternity leave.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Program.
  • Opportunities to travel to meet colleagues and enhance collaboration.

Join us at Canonical to work in a future-focused, open source environment that challenges you to think differently, work smarter, and continuously learn.
