Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems for the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely utilized in transformative initiatives like public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We serve prominent public cloud and silicon providers, alongside industry leaders across various sectors. Our global team of over 1,200 colleagues convenes two to four times a year for strategy alignment and execution, while mostly working remotely.

We are seeking a Dedicated Site Reliability Engineer to support our clients in the United Arab Emirates. In this on-site, full-time role, you will maintain and optimize clients' private cloud infrastructure, collaborating directly with clients to diagnose technical issues, provide expert guidance, and ensure smooth operations. The ideal candidate will ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of the private cloud while embracing automation and a scientific approach to operations at scale.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Bringing Python software engineering skills to the operations domain
  • Practicing DevSecOps from bare metal to applications
  • Architecting and running OpenStack, Kubernetes, and software-defined storage
  • Enabling DevSecOps for applications running on that infrastructure

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science
  • Bash scripting expertise
  • Python software development expertise
  • Operational experience, including troubleshooting and incident-solving in Linux environments
  • Ability to work independently in a customer-facing, on-site role
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
  • Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks long)

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with OpenStack or Kubernetes deployment or operations
  • Familiarity with public or private cloud management
