Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, notably through its platform, Ubuntu, which is widely used in various enterprise initiatives including public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are currently seeking an Embedded Linux Field Engineering Manager to lead a regionally-focused team of Field engineers in presales and professional services activities, assisting customers with solution architecture, design, and delivery.

Your role will involve managing a remote team across one of three geographies: Americas, EMEA, or APAC, requiring your location to align with these regions. The Field Engineers are thought leaders focused on helping customers navigate complex technical challenges with hands-on expertise in embedded Linux strategy and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a diverse team of Field engineers in the areas of presales and professional services.
  • Solve customer challenges by promoting our technologies and acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Coach and mentor team members while providing career development feedback.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators and implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Actively participate in leadership collaboration and represent your team and product to stakeholders and customers.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record, with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Extensive embedded Linux experience (Yocto or similar), with proficiency in Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Fluency in at least one programming language: Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust.
  • Experience in managing a small team and engaging with customers.
  • Professional written and spoken English skills are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, accountability, along with a result-oriented mindset.

Desirable Traits:

  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
  • Knowledge of additional programming languages and human languages.
  • Previous experience in a remote-first, diverse, distributed company.
