Position

Join Canonical as an Embedded Linux Senior Software Engineer focusing on Optimisation. This role involves working across the full Linux stack from kernel through GUI to optimise Ubuntu for the latest silicon. The position is fast-paced and problem-solving, providing an exciting challenge. The ideal candidate will be resourceful, articulate, and capable of delivering a wide array of solutions across PC and IoT technologies. You will design and implement the best Ubuntu integration for the latest IoT and server-class hardware platforms and software stacks. Collaborate with partners to deliver an exceptional, optimised Ubuntu experience, taking a holistic approach to technical plans, testing strategy, and quality metrics. Additionally, you will participate as a technical lead on complex customer engagements, assisting customers in integrating their applications and optimising them with Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server.

Location: Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia (Remote)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or similar
  • Experience with Linux packaging (Debian, RPM, Yocto)
  • Experience with open source communities and licences
  • Proficiency in C and C++
  • Ability to work in a globally distributed team (self-discipline and motivation are essential)

Additional Skills (Preferred):

  • Experience with graphics stacks
  • Understanding of networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, HTTP/REST)
  • Knowledge of security best practices in IoT or server environments
  • Good communication skills, ideally with public speaking experience
  • IoT / Embedded experience, covering board and SoC, BMCs, bootloaders, firmware to OS, apps, and services
  • Some experience with Docker/OCI containers/Kubernetes

Language Requirements:
