The role of Security Engineering Manager plays a significant part in safeguarding millions of users globally. In this position, your leadership will be vital in tackling emerging threats, creating robust security measures, and maintaining Ubuntu's integrity.

The AppArmor team is focused on developing security features for AppArmor, which provides mandatory access control to programs and restricts their access to system resources, enhancing the security for all Ubuntu users. Your role will involve direct engagement with our community and customers, as well as coordinating efforts across multiple engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of engineers from entry-level to experienced professionals.
  • Coach and provide career development feedback.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators.
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Represent your team and product to key stakeholders and customers.
  • Develop and promote effective engineering and organizational practices.
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
  • Actively collaborate with other leaders within the security engineering team.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic background in Computer Science or a related field, or a compelling alternative narrative.
  • Strong drive and track record of exceeding expectations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Passion for developing people and proven experience in mentorship.
  • Organized and able to ensure timely, high-quality results from your team.
  • Proficient in C and knowledgeable about Linux kernel development.
  • Experience with Linux Security Modules.
  • Passionate about software and application security.
  • Solid experience in agile development environments.
  • Willingness to travel twice a year, for company events lasting up to two weeks.

  • Understanding of containers and packaging formats.
