The role of Security Engineering Manager significantly impacts the safety and security of millions of users globally. Your leadership will be crucial in addressing emerging threats, developing robust security measures, and ensuring the integrity of Ubuntu. The primary responsibility of the AppArmor team is to develop security features and capabilities for AppArmor, the security module that protects all Ubuntu users by providing mandatory access control to confine programs and restrict their access to system resources. Your efforts will directly enhance the security of millions of individuals. You will engage with our community and customers while coordinating across various engineering teams and projects to achieve these goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, from graduate to senior levels.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators.
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Develop and evangelize excellent engineering and organizational practices.
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
  • Collaborate as an active member of the security engineering leadership team.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a STEM field, or a compelling alternative path.
  • Proven track record of exceeding expectations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Passion for developing and growing team members.
  • Organized and capable of ensuring timely, high-quality results.
  • Professional demeanor when interacting with colleagues, partners, and the community.
  • Proficient in C with a strong understanding of Linux kernel development.
  • Experience with Linux Security Modules.
  • Passionate about software and application security.
  • Solid experience in an agile development environment.
  • Commitment to continual learning.
  • Ability to build trust, relationships, and confidence.
  • Result-oriented, with a strong personal drive to meet commitments.
  • Willingness to travel twice a year for company events, up to two weeks each time.

  • Good understanding of containers/packaging formats.
