About the Job: Drive the future of collaborative open-source development tooling as part of the Launchpad team. This role requires a motivated engineering manager with a passion for open-source software, Linux, and web services to join our distributed team. Launchpad is a robust platform for managing open-source development projects, including code hosting and review, bug tracking, package building, translations, and other facilities for free and open-source software developers. It provides essential development infrastructure for major projects such as Ubuntu. As an engineering manager at Canonical, your primary responsibility will be to the people you support: ensuring their growth as engineers, enabling them to do valuable work, and ensuring they have a fulfilling experience at Canonical. You will provide technical leadership and leverage your software development background to challenge and grow your team members. This role will allow you to influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and collaborate on strategy and execution.

Key Responsibilities: - Grow and lead a team of engineers in your region - Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development - Apply sound engineering principles and directly contribute toward your team's goals - Create and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders - Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders - Collaborate proactively with a distributed team and community - Lead the ongoing development of Launchpad - Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices - Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values - Actively engage with the broader leadership team - Work from home, with international travel up to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events

Who You Are: - You have experience leading a distributed team to deliver features and manage production services at scale - You enjoy mentoring and developing people, with a proven track record in this area - You are knowledgeable and passionate about technology - You have experience delivering high-quality software and designing complex distributed systems - You possess effective written and verbal communication skills - You have solid experience working in an agile development environment
