Position

Drive the future of collaborative open-source development tooling as part of the Launchpad team at Canonical. This role is for a motivated engineering manager with a passion for open-source software, Linux, and web services. Launchpad is a robust platform for managing open-source development projects, providing essential development infrastructure for major projects such as Ubuntu.

As an Engineering Manager, your primary responsibility is to support your team, ensuring they grow as engineers, perform valuable work, and enjoy their time at Canonical. You will provide technical leadership and leverage your software development background to challenge and develop your team members. Additionally, you have the opportunity to influence company culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work on strategic execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grow and lead a team of engineers.
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
  • Apply sound engineering principles and contribute to team goals.
  • Create and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with a distributed team and community.
  • Lead the ongoing development of Launchpad.
  • Advocate for modern, agile software development practices and help develop great engineering and organizational practices.
  • Foster a collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
  • Engage with the broader leadership team.
  • Work from home with up to 6 weeks of international travel per year for events.

Who You Are:

  • Experienced in leading a distributed team and managing production services at scale.
  • Passionate about mentoring and developing people, with a proven track record.
  • Knowledgeable about technology and experienced in delivering high-quality software.
  • Familiar with designing and evolving complex distributed systems.
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid experience working in an agile development environment.

Language Requirements: None specified, but proficiency in English is implied due to the nature of the role.
