About the Job: Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are hiring an Engineering Manager for Ceph & Distributed Storage to help teams store data in open source storage on commodity hardware safely, cheaply, and simply.

As Engineering Manager, you will run an effective team, focusing on developing your colleagues and ensuring they grow as engineers. You will lead a team building a Ceph-focused software-defined storage solution, manage a globally distributed team of engineers, and promote a culture of quality and engineering excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team building a Ceph focused software defined storage solution.
  • Build and manage a globally distributed team of engineers.
  • Develop your team through coaching, mentoring, and feedback.
  • Contribute directly to the team's goals while demonstrating sound engineering principles.
  • Set reasonable schedules and manage expectations with other teams and stakeholders.
  • Advance modern, agile software development practices.
  • Collaborate with other leaders in the organization.

Requirements:

  • Software engineering background, preferably with Python and C++ experience.
  • Experience operating scale-out storage clusters on Linux in production environments, preferably with Ceph.
  • Passion for embracing new technologies and developing people.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring software developers in an agile environment.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a remote position with global travel up to 20% for internal and external events.

Language Requirements:

  • Proficiency in English is expected.
